Sexual Health Awareness through Peer EducationSHAPE is a group of trained and knowledgeable college students and people living with HIV who provide sexual health workshops and outreach for youth and young adults with a focus on college students. Peer (college student) Educators are trained in prevention education about pregnancy, STIs, and HIV/AIDS and HIV (people living with HIV) Educators focus on sharing their story. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , (205) 934-9253 Interested in becoming a SHAPE Educator?All interested Peer Educators (current college students) enroll in the Peer Education Course HE 490-2D (undergraduate students) / HE 691-2D (graduate students) offered in the Fall 2012 semester on Tuesday and Thursday from 12:30 - 1:45 pm at the UAB 1917 Clinic. Peer Education Flier with more information. All interested HIV Educators (people living with HIV) please complete the application below and contact Kelly to schedule an interview. SHAPE invites HIV Educators to apply throughout the year. SHAPE HIV Educator Application (MS Word format) What’s needed?Good communication skills, responsibility, an open mind, flexibility, a team attitude, an interest in educating others, some knowledge in the area of sexual health and a desire to learn more. Once Peer Educators complete the class, they can continue as active SHAPE Educators as students or recent graduates. Educators plan and lead workshops and other outreach events (World AIDS Day, National HIV Testing Day, Sexual Responsibility Week, etc) as their schedule permits, but with a willingness to contribute an average of 2-8 hours per month. SHAPE Educators are also trained to conduct HIV Testing & Counseling using the OraQuick Rapid HIV Antibody Test. Please also complete the Volunteer Agreement and HIPAA Quiz if you are not already volunteering at the 1917 Clinic. |
