Welcome to the Renfrow Group home page. We are the lead group for the Biomedical FT-ICR MS Laboratory in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. We are interested in the development and application of high resolution mass spectrometry for biomedical research. Current work in the laboratory focuses on the following areas:
  1. RXR nuclear receptor activation by anti-cancer retinoids.
  2. Analysis of transcription complexes in unique cellular systems.
  3. Analysis of IgA1 glycosylation in the pathogenesis of a chronic kidney disease called IgA nephropathy.
  4. Analysis of post-translational modifications.
