Annual Meeting


The UAB National Alumni Society hosted the Annual Meeting on Friday, June 22, 2012 at the UAB National Alumni Society House with over 150 alumni and friends in attendance. Guests enjoyed a buffet dinner and networking prior to the Annual Meeting. Live music by Jeff Otwell and a comedy performance by Marvin Lee, were also part of this annual event. The 2012-13 UAB National Alumni Society Slate of Officers was presented at the meeting.

Jerod HaaseJerod Haase, who has spent the previous 13 years on Roy Williams' staff at Kansas and most recently North Carolina, was announced as the fifth head coach in the 34-year history of the Blazer men's basketball program on March 27, 2012.  Haase played for Roy Williams at Kansas and has spent the last 13 years on Williams' staff with the Jayhawks and Tar Heels. He helped North Carolina to national championships in 2005 and 2009. Known as a top recruiter, he has also served as the head coach for the junior varsity team five times in his nine-year UNC tenure. 

Haase co-wrote "Floor Burns," detailing the 1996-97 KU season, which sold more than 30,000 copies. Floor burns are a statistic the Kansas stat crew created in honor of Haase, who had 165 of them as a junior. He has also produced a basketball instructional video.


Comedian Marvin Lee provided a stand-up show filled with lots of laughs. With over 16 years as a professional comedian, Marvin Lee has performed in over 6 countries and in over 50 comedy clubs and casinos in the United States. Marvin Lee was one of 10 comedians chosen from all 50 states for the 2007 New York Underground Comedy Festival.One of only 3 American comedians to be asked back to do The Great Canadian Laugh off and the only American comedian in the history of the "The Great Canadian Laugh Off" to be asked to return 3 years in a row!
