Each Homecoming, the National Alumni Society hosts events throughout the week along with the rest of the UAB community.  It provides an amazing opportunity to connect with UAB alumni, students, faculty, staff, fans and friends.

Building Decoration Competition

2014 DecorationsSchools and groups across the UAB campus decorate the exterior of their buildings to showcase the selected Homecoming theme and ignite Blazer spirit.  The buildings are judged on appearance, creativity, effort, group participation, and use of Homecoming theme.  A panel of judges tour campus to judge the buildings.

Gurney Derby Competition

2014 Gurney DerbyThe Gurney Derby is one of the most popular Homecoming Week traditions at UAB.  Teams of four (two men and two women) race down and back on a stretch of 13th Street South while pushing a "passenger" on old hospital gurneys.  Awards are handed out to the the 1st and 2nd place teams, best-dressed gurney, most creative "passenger," and the "Dead Last Award."

Parade Float Competition

2014 ParadeEach year, the UAB National Alumni Society provides a judging panel that evaluates the Homecoming parade floats during the annual parade traditionally held the day before the Homecoming game.  The floats are judged on appearance, creativity, effort, participation, and utilization of the Homecoming theme.  Awards handed out include most creative float design, best use of Homecoming theme, and best display of Blazer spirit.

Mr. & Ms. UAB Scholarship Competition

Winners SMALLThe presentation of the winners of the Mr. & Ms. UAB Scholarship competition will be held prior to the featured Homecoming event.  Mr. & Ms. UAB will be crowned and will each receive a $2,500 scholarship.  The first alternates will each receive a $1,000 scholarship.  Mr. & Ms. UAB and first alternates will also serve as ambassadors for the University.

Sophomore Allie David and Junior Chirag Patel were named Mr. & Ms. UAB 2015.
