What is your favorite UAB memory? Crazy Hat Night. Our class did this every year—everyone wore a crazy hat to the party. We had a great class.
How has UAB impacted your life? I have life-long friends from Optometry school (and my husband, who I met in school and graduated with). We had amazing instructors who still inspire me to strive for excellence.
What made you choose your current profession? I learned about optometry through a friend’s dad. After shadowing another doctor for a semester in college, I decided it was the route for me.
What would you do if you were given more time in each day? Spend more time with my kids; exercise longer.
What invention have you seen in your lifetime that you believe has been the most important? The iPhone (mostly a handheld Outlook calendar—organization has become more and more important for me, the older I get, and the more complicated life becomes).
If you could have 3 wishes, what would they be? 1) vacation with husband and kids, 2) vacation with no kids, 3) bottomless (and guilt-free) coconut cream pie from Jim N Nicks
If you could go back to any age…which age and why? 25 - Optometry school was so much fun.
Which historical figure do you most identify with and why? FDR
If you had the power to solve one, and only one, problem in the world…what would it be? The world’s dependence on petroleum.
What natural gift would you most like to possess? Creativity.
What trait(s) do you most value in your friends? Dependability, flexibility.
Who would you want to portray you in a film about your life? Jennifer Garner (????)
What is your motto? Be nice to spiders (and everyone else).
What is the best piece of advice you ever received? Most of the advice that I get which truly changes things for the better is from my mom. The one that I need to remind myself of most often is, “be flexible”.
If you could start a charity or non-profit organization, what would it be and why? A program to teach young kids about eating healthy, and about how to grow/make/prepare the food themselves.

Who is the best professor that you have had at UAB so far and why? Dr. Tammy Than – she knows everything!
What is your favorite UAB memory? Going to Salt Lake City to represent UAB in the Optometry Student Bowl.
What is your current state of mind? Overwhelmed and excited.
What do you do for fun? Take my dogs to the dog park, travel, hiking, and working on my house.
Who are your heroes in real life? Ron Paul and Pastor Chris at Church of the Highlands.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be? Night vision.
What is the best invention of your lifetime and why? Email – I can never find a stamp when I need to mail an actual letter.
What are your future goals? To have my own Optometry practice, raise a family, and have a pack of Great Danes.
What would be your ultimate dream job? Hosting a show on the Travel Channel.
If you had a theme song, what would it be? “The Future’s So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades.”
If you had the power to solve one, and only one, problem in the world…what would it be and why? A lot of problems could be solved by following the Golden Rule – treat others how you would like to be treated.
What’s the best advice you ever received? “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:34.
