Hometown:  Charleston, SC
Current town: Trussville, AL
Current employer: UAB School of Optometry

What is your favorite UAB memory? Crazy Hat Night.  Our class did this every year—everyone wore a crazy hat to the party. We had a great class.

How has UAB impacted your life? I have life-long friends from Optometry school (and my husband, who I met in school and graduated with).  We had amazing instructors who still inspire me to strive for excellence.

What made you choose your current profession? I learned about optometry through a friend’s dad. After shadowing another doctor for a semester in college, I decided it was the route for me.

What would you do if you were given more time in each day?  Spend more time with my kids; exercise longer.

What invention have you seen in your lifetime that you believe has been the most important? The iPhone (mostly a handheld Outlook calendar—organization has become more and more important for me, the older I get, and the more complicated life becomes).

If you could have 3 wishes, what would they be? 1) vacation with husband and kids, 2) vacation with no kids, 3) bottomless (and guilt-free) coconut cream pie from Jim N Nicks

If you could go back to any age…which age and why?  25 - Optometry school was so much fun.

Which historical figure do you most identify with and why?  FDR

If you had the power to solve one, and only one, problem in the world…what would it be? The world’s dependence on petroleum.

What natural gift would you most like to possess? Creativity.

What trait(s) do you most value in your friends? Dependability, flexibility.

Who would you want to portray you in a film about your life? Jennifer Garner (????)

What is your motto? Be nice to spiders (and everyone else).

What is the best piece of advice you ever received? Most of the advice that I get which truly changes things for the better is from my mom.  The one that I need to remind myself of most often is, “be flexible”.

If you could start a charity or non-profit organization, what would it be and why? A program to teach young kids about eating healthy, and about how to grow/make/prepare the food themselves.
