Why are you proud to be a UAB Blazer? UAB provided me with an excellent education and preparation for the role in nursing that I planned to pursue.  It is an internationally known center of education.

What made you choose UAB? My husband was finishing his residency in Family Medicine in Omaha, NE, and I was teaching in the College of Nursing.  We wanted to move back to the South, and UAB offered each of us career options that we were interested in.

What are your hobbies/what do you like to do in your free time? I am an avid reader, but also really enjoy working on Habitat for Humanity homes with our church.

Why did you decide on nursing as a career? I didn't really decide because I knew even as a very small child that I would be a nurse.

How has UAB changed since you graduated?  Well, it has certainly grown, both physically and academically.  The campus itself has at least doubled in size, and there are quite a few more areas for academic and professional study.

What's your favorite quote? "Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school."  Albert Einstein

What was your first job? Besides the usual babysitting, I sold subscriptions to our local newspaper.

What is your proudest accomplishment? Besides being a wife and mother, receiving my doctoral degree in nursing.  I was the first person in my family to earn one.

Out of your college experiences, what was your favorite UAB memory? Having the opportunity to get to know so many women who have been and are the backbone of nursing, not just in Alabama, but across the country, was an amazing experience.

What was the last book you read? I love reading mystery/suspense books.  The one I just finished was Trial by Fire by J. A. Jance.

What do you like best about your job? For the past few years my job hasn't been in nursing per se since my husband had to retire from his medical practice due to several disabilities.  His mobility is limited, but his mind is still sharp.  I do what is needed to help him continue to go where he needs to go and do what he wants to do.

What are your pet peeves? I have a real problem with people who think that because they hold a position of "authority" it means that they are smarter than everyone else.

Have you ever won a trophy?  When I was in high school, I was second runner-up in our county's Junior Miss pageant.  The trophy still sits on the bureau in my old bedroom in my mother's house.

If someone wrote a biography about you, what would the title be? "Be Careful What You Wish For"

If you had a time machine and could only select one year to relive, what year would you travel to? I would probably choose 1991, the year my daughter was born.

What's the greatest invention in your lifetime and why? That's a really hard decision because so many wonderful things have been invented in just the last couple of decades. If I have to choose just one, I think that would be the computer because it has changed the way we live in pretty much every single aspect of our lives.

Who would you want to portray you in a movie about your life? Even though we look absolutely nothing alike, I would choose Meryl Streep. She is without a doubt one of the most versatile actors of our time and has the amazing ability to become whatever role or whoever she is playing.

Why are you proud to be a UAB Blazer? I am proud to be a UAB Blazer because not only is UAB one of the best schools in the state of Alabama, it is also one of the top schools in the nation. GO BLAZERS!

Why did you choose UAB? To be honest, UAB was not my first choice. It was actually at the bottom of my list. After researching the school and its medical programs, I realized UAB was the best institution to receive a medical related degree from in the state of Alabama.

What are your hobbies/what do you like to do in your free time? I enjoy playing my Alto Saxophone, watching comical movies, singing and dancing.

What are your future goals? My future goals consist of attending graduate school, receiving a doctoral degree and opening my own practice as a Nurse Practitioner.

Who is the best professor that you have had so far and why? Dr. Wilson, my English 102 professor. She was amazing.  As a professor she teaches her students writing fundamentals and helps them improve their writing skills. As a mentor, she teaches her students life lessons and makes her students aware of the situations occurring in the world and how the effects that the outcomes of certain situations will have in the future.

If you could trade places with any other person for a week, famous or not famous, living or dead, real or fictional, with whom would it be? I would love to trade places with Beyoncé Knowles. She is a wonderful role model for young women. She is a talented entertainer, who graces any event with a powerful presence. Not to mention she is her own boss and wife to recording artist Jay-Z.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? I would have two "Golden" by Jill Scott  and "Super Woman" by Alicia Keys.

What's your favorite event at UAB? My favorite event at UAB would have to be the basketball games. I am a huge basketball fan, and I find it a plus that I attend a school with a reputable team.

If you were written about in the newspaper, on the front page, what would the headline say? "Tuscaloosa Native Returns Home and Opens New Family Wellness Center"

Have you ever won a trophy? I've won many trophies, including my "Superior Ratings" trophy I won as Drum Major my senior year of high school.

What's the greatest invention in your lifetime and why? It would have to be a tie between the smartphone and Google. They both are lifesavers!

What's your favorite study spot on campus? When I was living in Blazer Hall, I loved the study room and the third floor that overlooked The Green. Now, I would have to say it is the library or Heritage Hall.

What would be your dream job? My dream job would consist of me owning my own family wellness center and serving Tuscaloosa as a well-known Nurse Practitioner.

If you could go a road trip anywhere with anyone, where would you go and with whom? I would go with my mother to Italy. The culture, fashion, and food would make us reconsider returning to the states.

If someone wrote a biography about you, what would the title be? "Ambitious"
