Hometown: Joliet, Illinois
Current town: Joliet, Illinois
Current employer and job: Program Director, Physical Therapist Assistant Program, Morton College, Cicero, IL
What is your favorite UAB memory? The DScPT is a Hybrid – part online part face to face and so my favorite memories are centered around the more social aspects of the weekends on campus. Fellow DScPT students and faculty from the program would meet for lunch or go out for a meal one evening. Always a great time.
How has UAB impacted your life? Able to attain the degree that allowed me to enter the field of academics and the overall confidence to move into this aspect of physical therapy.
What made you choose your current profession? I have been a PT for over 30 years. My main influence for entering the profession was knowing someone who was a PT and working at her facility over summer break when I was in high school.
What would you do if you were given more time in each day? Develop my baking and cooking skills – I am working on my bread making abilities, but time limits how often I make bread. I would like to try making pasta and sausages but have difficulty finding enough time.
What invention have you seen in your lifetime that you believe has been the most important? The internet.
If you could have 3 wishes, what would they be? To watch my children succeed in their chosen fields, to stay healthy, to live by the sea.
If you could go back to any age…which age and why? If it is my age then it would be when I was in my early 30s, but with the knowledge that I have now. I had more energy then and probably could achieve more than I did.
If you had the power to solve one, and only one, problem in the world…what would it be and why? I find it very distressing to see so much anger / hatred between groups of people who live in close proximity to each other. Instances of religious or ethnic warfare or killings seem to be on the rise. I find it distressing that people cannot get along with their neighbors, but have to resort to violence. I would like to see an end to these attacks and try to get people to live together or at least have greater tolerance for people of differing backgrounds.
What natural gift would you most like to possess? To be able to sing in tune!
What trait(s) do you most value in your friends? Honesty.
Who would you want to portray you in a film about your life? Judi Dench.
What is your motto? I don’t know if I have a motto, but I do believe in “doing unto others as you would have done unto you”.
What is the best piece of advice you ever received? To value education.
If you could start a charity or non-profit organization, what would it be and why? It would have to be related to health because of my profession. I think an organization that was involved in health education for teens. I feel that is the time to start addressing healthy habits to hopefully prevent the diseases and problems that are so prevalent in later life.

Major: Nursing Anesthesia
Hometown: Atlanta, GA
Why did you choose to attend UAB? During my interview for the nursing anesthesia program, the faculty made me feel very comfortable. They were not intimidating like other programs and made me feel like I was important even though they had plenty of other applicants. I just felt like with such welcoming faculty I had a better chance for success. I haven’t doubted my decision once!
Who is the best professor that you have had at UAB so far and why? It would have to be a tie between Dr. Unlap and Dr. Granger. They were both so supportive in my first year of anesthesia school. I was incredibly worried about not making it through the program, but they both provided encouragement and would go out of their way to help me grasp tough concepts. Thanks guys!
What is your current state of mind? Thankful and optimistic.
What do you do for fun? I love to eat! Ice cream more than anything, but I’m not very picky.
Who are your heroes in real life? My heroes are everyday people who go through struggles in their lives and still continue to have positive attitudes and move forward despite adversity.
If you were given more time in each day, what would you do? I would probably take more naps. I love naps.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be? X-Ray vision (would come in pretty handy in the medical field), that or be super strong.
What is the best invention of your lifetime and why? Well even though it wasn’t in my lifetime, I think air conditioning is probably the best invention ever!
What are your future goals? I would love to have a family of my own someday.
What would be your ultimate dream job? I love being a Nurse Anesthetist! This is my dream job. I work with amazing people, I have autonomy in my job, I make plenty of money, and I get to practice one of the coolest arts in the world everyday…the art of anesthesia! Awesome!
If you had a theme song, what would it be? Wheel by John Mayer
If you had the power to solve one, and only one, problem in the world…what would it be and why? Intolerance. I believe it to be the root of most evil.
What’s the best advice you ever received? “It’s better to want something you don’t have, than to have something you don’t want. Be careful what you wish for.”
