RESEARCH
Goal: Facilitate excellence in Research
Objectives
1. Course release time at Chair’s discretion.
2. Junior faculty travel endowment.
3. Increase travel budget
FACILITIES/EQUIPMENT:
Goal: Improve facilities and equipment
For the most part, while great strides have been made since 2000, an increase
of facility space remains a goal in the department. Still, much of the success
of achieving our goals lie in university administration making space available.
Objectives
1. Photography and Printmaking Designated Spaces
2. Renovation of HB 103
3. Mid-size Art and Art History lecture room
4. Gallery Storage
5. BFA Student Spaces
6. Storage space for the departmental office.
STAFF:
Goal: Increase staff to meet needs

1. Full-time/Non-student Lab Technician
2. Slide Library, Digital Imaging/Visual Resources
COMMUNITY SERVICE, INVOLVEMENT, AND RECOGNITION:
Goal: Increase visibility, recognition, and involvement of
the department in the community.
Objectives
1. Establish funding specifically for recruitment of the best students from
the state.
2. Participate and lead workshops and demonstrations on areas of expertise
for the community.
3. Exhibit professionally locally and regionally
The UAB Department of Art and Art History mission, goals, and objectives have
a direct relationship to those of the university in providing an exceptional
educational opportunity to both undergraduate and graduate students, improvement
of research capabilities, service to the community and the state, and the
creation of a positive, supportive, and diverse work environment in which
faculty and staff can excel.
