Birmingham Southern College

The fundamental mission of Birmingham-Southern College is to provide a liberal arts education of distinctive quality that challenges students to think independently and communicate clearly, to examine the arts and sciences aesthetically and critically and to be committed to intellectual and social responsibility.

The academic program at Birmingham-Southern College draws upon the commitment of unusually talented faculty to focus on individual students in a diverse community of lifelong learners devoted to intellectual, ethical, and spiritual development. Upon graduation, students should understand the relationships among several academic areas, have proficiency in at least one, have gained cross-cultural and historical awareness, and possess the ability to change. BSC is distinguished by service learning, leadership development, and undergraduate scholarship and research.

Birmingham-Southern operates under the auspices of the Alabama-West Florida and the North Alabama Conferences of the United Methodist Church. The College's most responsible service on behalf of the Church is to perform with distinction its educational mission.
