Working with Your Course

The amount of review and rework required on a course moved from BB Vista 8 to Blackboard Learn will vary depending on the content in your course, the type of multimedia files used, tools used, the extent to which you have linked to pages within your course, and a number of other factors. Initially, it will be helpful to delete unused files from your course prior to migration.

The following material, though by no means exhaustive, provides a path for a quality assurance check on your migrated course to aid your transition:
  • Expect to see additional links in your course menu. These are the default links in the Bb Learn course shell and are not deleted when content is copied into the shell. These links will appear at the top of the course menu and they are: Home Page, Information, Content, Discussions, Groups, Tools, and Help;
  • Your course menu items will appear below the default menu links;
  • Check the log file for details on content that was not moved to the blackboard Learn course:
    • On the Control panel, select Packages and Utilities, then Import Package/View Logs, then click on the log file shown. A lot of the issues on this list will refer to user data and will be irrelevant, but portions may refer to issues related to content;
  • Check all other links in the course menu to ensure they link to the content as originally structured;
  • Check rich media content to ensure that it displays correctly;
  • Ensure that page layout displays as intended;
  • Review the settings in any discussion forums in your course;
  • Check any calculated columns in the grade center;
  • Review the Getting started file for details on reviewing specific course elements such as learning modules, tests, release dates, etc.
  • When importing Wimba Voice features to an existing course, only top-level content is imported, even if you are importing from a course archive.
  • When importing a course that links to one or more Wimba Classroom(s), a new classroom is created with the same settings and content as the existing classroom(s). Wimba Classroom archives are not preserved in exported courses.

Blackboard Learn Known Issues

There are some as yet unresolved technical issues with the Blackboard Learn 9.1 system.

Browsers
Blackboard's list of supported browsers includes Internet Explorer 9, Firefox 5.0, and Google Chrome; they also certify Safari 5.0. If you encounter issues using a specific browser, you may switch to an alternate browser and check performance (different operating systems, java versions, and other system configurations can all result in different issues on disparate systems).

For committed users of Explorer, you may want to access Blackboard in compatibility mode to clear up potential issues:
In the horizontal tool bar at the top of the browser, click Tools, select Compatibility View Settings, Check Display all websites in Compatibility View  at the bottom of the dialog box and then hit Close.
You will need to close IE9 and reopen the browser before this change takes effect.

We will list additional known issues affecting tools and functions that may be important to you as test and develop workarounds. If you encounter an issue please This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
