Magic City Harvest Awarded Community Impact Grant
In December 2014, Magic City Harvest became the first recipient of UAB's Community Impact Grant. Annually, Magic City Harvest recovers two million pounds of excess perishable food and distributes nutritious food daily to people in need through collaborations with over 40 local charities. UAB employees voted to award $50,000 in employee contributions to purchase an additional 18 foot refrigerated truck to allow Magic City Harvest to distribute an additional 500,000 pounds of salvaged food annually. This is one more way the Benevolent Fund gives UAB employees a chance to improve lives and transform our community.
Please check back. Once the used refrigerated truck has been secured which can take several months we will start tracking the food that is being transported using the truck purchased with employee donations.
