2015 Habitat House Dedication
On Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at 3:30 p.m., UAB employees and students came together with Monique Dixon, her family, and Habitat for Humanity to dedicate UAB's 2015 Habitat House. The dedication was held at the house located at 4408 Winchester Hills Drive in Clay, Alabama.
In celebration of the 25th Anniversary of ADA, UAB employees and students built a handicapped accessible home for the Dixon family. This was made possible through UAB employee contributions to the UAB Benevolent Fund.

Meet the 2015 Habitat House Family
This year, Monique Dixon and her three children, Donocan, Briana and Trenton, were the beneficiaries of UAB employees' donations of time and money to build a new home in Clay, Alabama. In honor of the Americans with Disabilities Act's 25th Anniversary, the house will be ADA compliant, allowing Donovan, who uses a wheelchair, complete access to the house. This is a very special project!
"Owning my own home will be a new experience that will be life-changing in numerous ways," Monique Dixon said. "I am both grateful and thankful. God has instilled this wonderful gift in each and every volunteer to help make my dreams a reality."
Construction was completed October 24, 2015 with the help of over 560 UAB employees and students who spent 2,572 hours volunteering to build the home!
UAB's 2014 Habitat House
We did it! UAB employees and students built our first house. It turned out better than we could have imagined thanks to the guidance of Habitat’s skilled professionals. On November 10, 2014, La’Tasha Willis and her daughters, Lyric and Alexis, received the keys to their new house in the Pratt City community of Birmingham. Almost 2,000 volunteer hours were logged by 425 different UAB employees and students. It was a joy to see students, faculty, staff and homeowners all working together toward the common goal of decent, affordable housing for our community.
Habitat Helps our UAB Family
In the past 6 years, Habitat For Humanity Greater Birmingham Chapter has built 39 houses for our UAB family including 31 employees and 9 students. Ivory received her Habitat House while completing her degree in Early Childhood Education.
