Building UAB’s Habitat House
We did it! UAB employees and students built our first house. It turned out better than we could have imagined thanks to the guidance of Habitat’s skilled professionals. On November 10, 2014, La’Tasha Willis and her daughters, Lyric and Alexis, received the keys to their new house in the Pratt City community of Birmingham. Almost 2,000 volunteer hours were logged by 425 different UAB employees and students. It was a joy to see students, faculty, staff and homeowners all working together toward the common goal of decent, affordable housing for our community.
We are starting to make plans for our 2015 Habitat House project. You can support our house by donating to the Benevolent Fund and designating your gift to "Habitat House - Sponsored by UAB" and/or by volunteering your time to build the house.
Thank you to the many UAB employees and students who have volunteered. Special recognition to the organized groups of volunteers including UAB Athletics, Sand Volleyball, Women’s Basketball, Women’s Softball, UAB Human Resources, Office of the IRB, Department of Preventative Medicine, School of Health Professions, SHP - Health Services Administration, UAB Business Services, Hospital Radiology, SHP – Nutrition Sciences/Dietary Interns, SHP – Physician Assistants, Office of Service Learning, UAB Student Housing Resident Assistants, UAB Student Housing Professional Staff, Student Athlete Support Services, Kidney & Pancreas Transplant, Department of Government/Public Administration Program, UAB Libraries & Alys Stephens Center/ArtPlay.
