2015 Habitat House Volunteer Registration is OPEN!
Types of Volunteers
- Half-Day Volunteers: willing to work 4 hours. Shifts are 7:30-11:30 a.m. OR noon-4:00 p.m. Volunteers may work more than one shift if interested and available.
- All-Day Volunteers (ADV): willing to lead both a morning and afternoon work group in an assigned task. ADV work 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. with ½ hour to eat a sack lunch provided by volunteer. Some basic familiarity with tools is useful in the ADV position. Key to serving as an ADV is the ability to listen and follow instructions of the onsite Habitat coordinator and willingness to instruct the team when something is done incorrectly (quality control).

Meet the 2015 Habitat House Family
This year, Monique Dixon and her three children, Donocan, Briana and Trenton, will be the beneficiaries of UAB employees' donations of time and money to build a new home in Clay, Alabama. In honor of the Americans with Disabilities Act's 25th Anniversary, the house will be ADA compliant, allowing Donovan, who uses a wheelchair, complete access to the house. This is a very special project!
"Owning my own home will be a new experience that will be life-changing in numerous ways," Monique Dixon said. "I am both grateful and thankful. God has instilled this wonderful gift in each and every volunteer to help make my dreams a reality."
Volunteers to build the home in Clay (4408 Winchester Hills Drive, Birmingham, AL 35215) will be needed for construction beginning September 17 and continuing each Thursday, Friday, and Saturday through October 24.
UAB's 2014 Habitat House
We did it! UAB employees and students built our first house. It turned out better than we could have imagined thanks to the guidance of Habitat’s skilled professionals. On November 10, 2014, La’Tasha Willis and her daughters, Lyric and Alexis, received the keys to their new house in the Pratt City community of Birmingham. Almost 2,000 volunteer hours were logged by 425 different UAB employees and students. It was a joy to see students, faculty, staff and homeowners all working together toward the common goal of decent, affordable housing for our community.
Habitat Helps our UAB Family
In the past 6 years, Habitat For Humanity Greater Birmingham Chapter has built 39 houses for our UAB family including 31 employees and 9 students. Ivory received her Habitat House while completing her degree in Early Childhood Education.
