FYI from the GSA

The Graduate Student Association (GSA) has voted on several changes over the past months (travel grants, budgets, etc.) The website is in the process of being updated. However, minutes of the meetings are available. See www.uab.edu/gsa for more information.

The GSA has started a Graduate Student Medical Assistance Fund. This benevolence fund is for students who have a need that is not covered by VIVA or to supplement those with chronic illnesses. The money for the fund will come from fundraisers and payroll deductions. The committee is asking for a monthly donation of $5 - $10 from each graduate student. However, any and all donations are welcomed.

The GSA Holiday Party will be at J. Clydes on Wednesday, December 2 following the Senate Meeting. Donations for Toys for Tots will be collected.

For more information about these projects or to assist in the planning, please contact your GSA senator.

World AIDS Day – 5th Annual Pastors vs. Personalities Basketball Event
December 4, 2009, 6:30 PM at Miles College
Attendance is Free

BGSA has been invited to support the 5th Annual Pastors vs. Personalities Basketball event to fight against HIV/AIDS.    This event is geared towards allowing our local “Celebrities” which consist of Radio personnel, News Anchormen/women, Business owners, City Council Members and “Pastors” the opportunity to give back to our community in the spirit of HIV/AIDS Prevention.

Our goal is to ensure that at least 90% of young people between the ages of 15-24 have access to the information, education and services necessary to develop the life skills required to reduce their vulnerability to HIV/AIDS infection.  BGSA will be handing out important HIV/AIDS prevention literature to event attendees.
Come out and show your support.
