The Black Graduate Student Association (BGSA) of the University of Alabama at Birmingham is committed to servicing the African American community. We acknowledge the importance of being positive examples for our community’s youth. We realize the need for our youth to encounter progressive African Americans on a consistent basis. Therefore, we are appreciative of the opportunity afforded to us by Arrington Middle School to play a role in the growth of the students.
In pursuing this goal, we believe that our relationship with Arrington Middle School will filled with success. We meet with the 8 th grade students during the course of the semester and focus on various activities designed to help improve their chances of success in high school and beyond.
Specifically, we will engage the students in activities that will influence their behavior in a positive manner. We want to help students develop leadership ability, positive peer association, academic achievement, and progressive goal-obtainment.
Please contact BGSA’s Community Service Chair Lonnie Hannon, III (lonniehannon@yahoo.com) if you’re interested in participating.
