GroupThirty Collat Scholars spent a day of service to the homeless community of Birmingham on Saturday, February 24th in honor of Mr. Charles Collat who generously funded the Collat Scholars Program, and the program's commitment to community leadership and service. The scholars served as “smiling guides” to help their clients navigate the services of Project Homeless Connect at Boutwell Auditorium.

Collat Professor Michele (Mickey) Bunn, Ph.D. has organized the day of service since 2015 and serves as the Scholars mentor. Professor Bunn  is a strong advocate for volunteering and continues to see the impact this service has on the students.

Some comments from the scholars this year include:

“The experience today was both eye-opening and inspiring and it made me feel humble and grateful.”
“Thanks to my client and to PHC for helping me understand others and remind me not to judge people.”
“This opportunity showed me that - even at a young age – I can make an impact, however small, in someone’s life.”
“I appreciate Mr. Collat’s generosity and I want to continue to pay it forward in years to come.“
