UAB School of Business professors Jamey Worrell and Steve Yoder were the featured speakers at a recent continuing education meeting of the Birmingham chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors. Worrell spoke on "Identifying and Understanding Social Media Threats," and Yoder's topic was "Internal Audit's Role in Corporate Governance."
Members of the Institute of Internal Auditors work not only in internal auditing but also in risk management, governance, internal control, information technology audit, education and security.
IIA members are required to enhance their knowledge and skills through programs such as that at which Professors Worrell and Yoder spoke.
Professor Worrell is an assistant professor who teaches internal auditing and information technology auditing. Professor Yoder is also an assistant professor, and teaches business law, corporate governance, leadership and strategy.
Worrell and Yoder were invited to speak by UAB MBA graduate Greg Tice (2010), who now works in internal audit at BBVA Compass, focusing on fraud and forensics. Worrell and Yoder noted that many other former UAB School of Business students were present in the audience. Also attending was retired UAB School of Business professor Debbie Tanju.
