Members of the Class of 2010 UAB School of Business Honors Program have a unique opportunity this semester to join MBA students in a capstone course to hear about strategic management straight from eight CEOs or former CEOs of public companies. The capstone course is taught by Professors Eddie Friend and Steve Yoder. This year, the students will hear from the following business leaders:
Not only do these CEOs describe their own companies’ strategies, but students will also make their own recommendations as to those strategies. During each class in which a CEO presents, a group of students presents to the CEO on its strategic analysis of the CEO’s company. “This is the sixth year that we have offered this unique approach to learning strategic management, and each year we have students tell us that the class was among the most valuable experiences they had at our school,” says School of Business Assistant Professor Eddie Friend. Professor Friend co-taught the class until this year with former Dean Bob Holmes. Professor Yoder joined Friend this year. Friend and Yoder each has over thirty years of business experience himself. The strategic management course is the second in a three-course series of courses for the honors students. The Honors Program focuses on business leadership. During their final course, honors students engage in independent study on a leadership-related topic of their choosing. Current Honors Program student Josh Carpenter (Accounting and Economics, Class of 2010) said, "The program has offered opportunities to hone and develop leadership skills I could never have been exposed to elsewhere. The students and faculty provide an unmatched learning experience that has truly been the most valuable asset of my education." |
