Associate Professor Lauren Beitelspacher Reports on Students Interning in Ireland

Recently, I had the pleasure of taking four of our School of Business students to Dublin, Ireland to begin a 7-week internship program coordinated with EUSA (European Study Abroad). EUSA places students in internships in multiple locations in Europe. This year, there were over 300 students from over 100 universities participating in the Dublin internship program. Our students received prominent internship placements, working side by side with Irish business professionals.

Jon-Pierre Anthony, finance major, was placed with Green Money, an investment firm. Lisa Kate Jarrett, management and finance major, was placed with Integrate Ireland, a non-profit organization that specializes in assisting refugees in Ireland. Katie Huffstutler, marketing and industrial distribution major, is working with Truvo, an organization that provides online promotion of Dublin and all that it offers visitors and locals. Brett Spurrier, human resources management major, is working with QED, a specialist recruitment consultancy.

I spent the first several days helping the students get oriented, and learning about their internship providers. I stayed in the same dorms where they were staying, learned the bus system with them (which is much trickier than it seems), and met some of the students from other schools. I feel confident that the experience these students are gaining will open doors for them domestically and internationally, and make them more competitive in the job market when they graduate. In addition, they will learn so much about a different culture and doing business in Europe. This is an experience of a lifetime for them!

I feel so lucky to be at a school that supports these types of efforts for our students. This was an undertaking that involved students from all of the departments within the school. By offering opportunities such as this, we are differentiating ourselves and our students. Several employers commented on our students’ work ethics, competence, and professionalism. Because of this, they were placed in some of the most premier internships that EUSA offers. I am very proud of them!
