Some of Our Own Honored as Birmingham’s Up and Coming


2011Top40-BHMpromo The Birmingham Business Journal honored Birmingham’s “all-star group of young achievers” at its 2011 Top 40 Under 40 awards luncheon on March 24th at The Sheraton Birmingham. The annual awards, in their 27th year, honor the best and brightest young professionals in the Magic City, and the list of past honorees doubles as a who's who of the Birmingham business community. The following UAB School of Business alumni and professor were included in the list:

Mazi_Abdolrasulnia

Mazi Abdolrasulnia (UAB, MBA 2003)

As executive vice president of CE Outcomes LLC, Abdolrasulnia, 31, is contributing to the Birmingham community by developing studies that enhance the efforts of local health care providers and extending his knowledge through research and consulting with major health care companies nationally.

Stephen Armstrong, (UAB, MBA 2001)

Armstrong, 37, leads O’Neal Steel Inc.’s strategy development and implementation. As vice president of business administration, he is responsible for a 65-employee staff in accounting, information services and credit. O’Neal Steel, a metal service center, is the largest subsidiary of O’Neal Industries.

Dr. Lauren Skinner Beitelspacher

As Assistant Professor of Marketing at UAB, Beitelspacher, 33, has helped grow the UAB Chapter of the American Marketing Association to 100 members and into one of the top 20 chapters in the world.

Brett Jovanovich (UAB, BS in Marketing 2004)

At age 34, Jovanovich serves as chief operating officer for Lifeguard Transportation Service Inc., having relocated to the area from New Orleans to help develop this start-up business in Birmingham for owner John Roche in 2001. Working closely with Roche, he has facilitated company growth to $30 million a year in revenue and more than 150 employees.

Michael Mullis ( UAB, M.Ac. 1997)

Mullis, 37, was recognized for his rise in the financial planning industry. As managing partner and wealth manager of the independently-owned Kelly & Mullis Wealth management, he was recently honored for being in the Top 65 advisers out of 16,000 at LPL Financial, the company’s broker dealer
John_Smith

John Smith (UAB, MBA 2002)

Smith, 38, is the youngest office manager in the more than 300-employee architecture and engineering firm, Barge Waggoner Sumner & Cannon Inc. Elected vice president in August 2010, he successfully grew business in civil engineering, which now composes more than 50 percent of the office’s revenue.
