Accounting Professor Steve Grice has been named Director of the Master of Accounting (MAc) program at the UAB School of Business. A Scholar-In-Residence for the firm of Carr, Riggs, & Ingram, LLC., Dr. Grice was awarded the 2011 President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching and most recently volunteered to assume the role as instructor of the accounting capstone course. A student favorite, Dr. Grice’s student evaluations consistently rank in the top 10% in the Excellent Teacher category.
In order to encourage students to pursue the MAc, the School this year began allowing accounting students to get a jump start on their master’s degree by taking master’s degree courses in their final undergraduate semester. The program, known as the “Fast Track,” has proven enormously popular, with record numbers enrolling in the MAc program this fall. For the first time ever, the program is completely full.“I think letting the students go ahead and begin their master’s work will allow them to leave here with a second degree as opposed to just meeting the requirements needed to take the CPA exam,” he said. “We want to encourage our students to pursue the MAc while attracting students from other universities.”
