Business School Sponsors 30th Annual Retail Day in Alabama on Sept. 22, 2011

Richard Pizitz, Sr. will be the keynote speaker and Tracy Tuten, Ph.D. author of Advertising 2.0: Social Media Marketing in a Web 2.0 World will also be featured at the 30th Annual Retail Day in Alabama set for September 22 at the Club in Birmingham.

Richard, whose grandfather Louis Pizitz founded Pizitz Dry Goods Company in 1899, is the present day patriarch of the Pizitz retail family.  The Pizitz Management Group currently operates 40 retail enterprises throughout six southeastern states.  Richard will offer an experienced executive’s view of the past and future of retailing.

Tracy_TutenTracy Tuten, Ph.D., author of Advertising 2.0: Social Media Marketing in a Web 2.0 World and  marketing professor who teaches advertising at East Carolina University, will conduct a workshop on how social media campaigns that are being integrated into modern marketing communications are transforming buyer-seller relationships.  Her research in social media focuses on brand engagement online, using game advertising, alternate reality games, and virtual worlds. Frequently quoted in the press, including in the New York Times, Brandweek, the International Herald Tribune, and the Washington Post, she is a leading contributor to industry views on leveraging the Internet for branding. 

Retail Day is co-sponsored by the UAB School of Business, the Alabama Retail Association and Firestone Complete Auto care.  A highlight of the event will be the ARA’s presentation of its 2011 Retailer of the Year and Centennial Retailer awards.
