gary lockeEight days before the U.S. presidential election and less than two weeks before China’s Communist Party Congress names a new leader, UAB’s International Business Association will host the sixth annual CHINA Town Hall meeting from 6 to 8:15 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, in the Chemistry Building Room 101, 901 14th Street South. Gary F. Locke, U.S. ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, will appear live via webcast from Beijing, China. Stanley M. Erdreich, Jr., a Birmingham native who served U.S. presidents Carter, Reagan and George H.W. Bush in appointed capacities dealing with the Pacific Basin, will attend in person.

UAB joins only 60 other venues from across the country to host the live program. The event is designed to answer questions on the issues that affect the dynamic relationship between the U.S. and China. Ambassador Locke will deliver a special address and then answer questions submitted by audience members. Mr. Erdreich, whose company, Quest, LLC, represents clients in the development of U.S. policy on international trade, investment and technology, will discuss the impending leadership change at the top of China’s Communist Party and how that shift will affect the country, Alabama and Birmingham.
