At the invitation of football player Taylor Klein, Assistant Professor Stephen Yoder served as “guest coach” for the UAB Blazers football team in their 38-31 victory over the Thundering Herd of Marshall University on November 10, 2012. Klein is the long snapper on the team, the player who snaps the ball as quickly and accurately as possible during punts, field goals and extra point attempts.
Klein received his undergraduate bachelor’s of science degree in Accounting in May 2012 and is working on his master’s of accounting degree now. He also successfully completed the School of Business Honors Program, for which his senior project was a study of the leadership styles of athletic coaches. The School of Business Honors Program is directed by Mr. Yoder.
After Klein receives his master’s degree, he plans to work for the international public accounting firm PriceWaterhouseCoopers LLP, in its audit and assurance area.
The guest coaching program is sponsored by the Don M. and Marsha Hoke Hire Student-Athlete Academic Center, which provides academic support, counseling and guidance to the student-athletes participating in UAB’s intercollegiate athletic programs. The center is led by Associate Athletic Director Danez Marrable Lockhart.
School of Business Accounting and Finance Professor Dr. Frank Messina has served as the Faculty Athletics Representative to the UAB athletics program since 2008.
