Scholarship Application Deadlines Approaching

A number of scholarships, available to business students at all levels, are awarded on an annual basis.  The application deadline is December 1st for the Opportunities in Business 4-Year Scholarships and February 1st for all other School of Business scholarships.

Welcome 2012-13 Business Student Leaders!

Outstanding Business students are selected each fall to represent the School of Business as UAB Business Student Leaders. Students are selected based on their experiences, campus and community involvement, and overall GPA.

The Business Student Leaders provide first-hand knowledge of the School to prospective students, participate in business projects in the Birmingham community, and serve as a valued resource for faculty and administration with regard to strategic planning for the school.

School of Business Professor Guest Coaches at Blazers Football Game

Klein YoderAt the invitation of football player Taylor Klein, Assistant Professor Stephen Yoder served as “guest coach” for the UAB Blazers football team in their 38-31 victory over the Thundering Herd of Marshall University on November 10, 2012.  Klein is the long snapper on the team, the player who snaps the ball as quickly and accurately as possible during punts, field goals and extra point attempts.

Klein received his undergraduate bachelor’s of science degree in Accounting in May 2012 and is working on his master’s of accounting degree now. He also successfully completed the School of Business Honors Program, for which his senior project was a study of the leadership styles of athletic coaches. The School of Business Honors Program is directed by Mr. Yoder.

Jim Byrd, visiting instructor in the UAB Accounting and Finance Department co-authored a publication appearing in the November CPA Journal that identifies strategies and opportunities for accounting firms to prosper during an economic downturn.

Colonial Properties COO Says Good Leaders Know How to Focus

Colonial PropertiesIn his first visit to the UAB School of Business, Colonial Properties Trust Chief Operating Officer Paul Earle told students that great leaders know how to focus both small groups and large groups of people on their organization’s vision. Earle met with students in the combined undergraduate capstone and MBA class “Strategic leadership through the eyes of the C-Suite” on November 6, 2012.

UAB Hosts U.S. Ambassador in Live Webcast at U.S.-China Relations Town Hall

gary lockeEight days before the U.S. presidential election and less than two weeks before China’s Communist Party Congress names a new leader, UAB’s International Business Association will host the sixth annual CHINA Town Hall meeting from 6 to 8:15 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, in the Chemistry Building Room 101, 901 14th Street South. Gary F. Locke, U.S. ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, will appear live via webcast from Beijing, China. Stanley M. Erdreich, Jr., a Birmingham native who served U.S. presidents Carter, Reagan and George H.W. Bush in appointed capacities dealing with the Pacific Basin, will attend in person.
