Why I Chose UAB

When I decided to begin working on a college degree in 2005, I was working full-time in Homewood, and UAB was convenient. I also wanted a quality education at an affordable cost, and I found that at UAB. I chose information systems and accounting as majors because businesses will always have a need for computer and accounting employees, which will give me a larger range of career opportunities.

What I Like Best About UAB

I like all the ways you can be involved in community service. The organizations I belong to provide many opportunities of service, but UAB provides an event twice a year where all students, regardless of whether you belong to an organization or not, get together and volunteer. The event is called Into the Streets, and we meet at HUC on a Saturday morning to select a volunteer project. The projects can be anything from picking up trash in a neighborhood, to playing games with the elderly at a nursing home, to sorting and putting away medical supplies in a warehouse, to painting and cleaning a school, to working in a garden, and much more. We return to HUC around noon, where lunch is provided. You get to know other students and have a lot of fun! I would encourage every student to volunteer.
