Chad Nichols, MBA 2002, credits the UAB MBA program for helping him bring a business-like approach to his work in state government.  Chad has worked for Governor Bob Riley since he took office in 2003 and has served in numerous capacities building partnerships to improve health, education, economic development, and other quality of life issues in Alabama.  “I would not be where I am today without my MBA,” says Chad. “My MBA has had a direct impact on my career because it has helped me to develop important leadership skills that I now use to build collaborative teams from the public and private sectors to address important health care issues in our state.”

As Assistant Director of the  Governor’s Alabama Rural Action Commission, Chad is involved in several initiatives to improve health care access for Alabamians. One such initiative includes the highly successful KidCheck program that provides comprehensive health screenings for students in over 35 Alabama school systems, including schools in previously underserved rural areas. Theprogram also helps to ensure follow-up medical treatments for many students and results in students being enrolled in public health-care insurance programs like All Kids, Medicaid and Alabama Child Caring Foundation.

Chad was recently recognized in the annual Birmingham Business Journal’s Top 40 Under 40, which honors the best and brightest individuals under the age of 40 in the Birmingham business community.
