Daryl Byrd, CEO of IberiaBank Corporation, and Greg King, Birmingham market president, presented their company’s strategy on October 12, 2010 to the combined MBA-undergraduate capstone course on strategic management, “Hearing It From the CEOs.”   Both Mr. Byrd and Mr. King earned their MBA degrees from the UAB School of Business, Byrd in 1978 and King in 2000.

One of the recurrent themes in the remarks of both Byrd and King to the strategic management students is that recruiting and retaining the right people is essential to the successful leadership of any business strategy.  IberiaBank has just recently entered the Birmingham market and has assembled a new management team largely recruited from other local banks.  They already operate three branches in the Birmingham market and have plans for several more.

IberiaBank has the second-highest total return to shareholders of the over 200 publicly-traded bank holding companies, measured since Mr. Byrd became CEO in 1999.

The “Hearing It From the CEOs” strategic management course was created by Assistant Professor Eddie Friend along with former Dean Robert Holmes, and today is taught by Professor Friend and Professor Stephen Yoder.
