Accounting students across the state compete for top internships each fall. Students are looking for the “best” opportunity to put their skills to use and land a future, full-time job offer. This fall, the UAB accounting internship program had 71 students apply and 17 organizations conducting interviews.
More than 75% of those conducting interviews took advantage of the on-campus interview space in the UAB School of Business Career Services department, including the following: Barfield Murphy Shank & Smith; Carr Riggs & Ingram; Culotta, Scroggins, Hendricks & Gillespie; Deloitte; Dent, Baker, & Co.; Dixon Hughes Goodman ; Ernst & Young; Fresh Hospitality; Kassouf & Co.; Pearce ; Bevill Leesburg & Moore; PricewaterhouseCoopers; Regions; Warren Averett Kimbrough & Marino
On first offer day (Sept. 23th), 58 offers were extended to UAB students, with some students receiving multiple offers. As of Oct. 5th, UAB students have filled 35 positions and offers are still coming in.
“Internships make it possible to explore the accounting field before fully committing to it,” says Jared Koechner, UAB Master of Accounting student. “Connections made through the UAB accounting program have allowed me to get my foot in the door at local firms to casually network and learn more about the organization before going in for the interview.” Jared is currently in an internship with Boatright Companies and just accepted an offer from Warren Averett Kimbrough & Marino for an internship this spring.
