New MBA Admission Policy Emphasizes Work Experience

The UAB MBA program is modifying its admission requirements to better serve working professionals. The new requirements allow applicants to substitute extensive work experience for the GMAT score, formerly required of all applicants not holding a terminal degree.

The new admissions requirement will take effect immediately, said Christy Manning, coordinator of MBA programs, and is expected to attract a wide variety of applicants with diverse work histories.

"Many business professionals have been out of school for 10, 15, 20 years, and they want an MBA to advance in their current careers or to start a new path,” Manning said.   “These professionals bring a wealth of knowledge which enables them to make highly valuable classroom contributions.  We want prospective students to know their work experience is a tremendous asset, one valued every bit as much as a GMAT score."

Applicants with qualifying professional experience do not have to submit a GMAT score, Manning said, though an interview with members of the MBA admissions committee is required.
