The American Red Cross Lifeguard Training course provides instruction on the knowledge and skills needed to prevent recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies, and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses. The course content and activities will prepare participants to make appropriate decisions in an aquatic and medical emergency as a Lifeguard. A swimming skills test is performed on the first scheduled day of class which consists of
· 300 yard continuous swim
· Treading water without the use of hands for 2.5 minutes
· Jump into water, swim 25 yards, dive to 8 foot depth, pick up 10 lb brick and swim it back to starting point 25 yards.
