Protests

If a disagreement should arise between a player and an official concerning the interpretation of the rules that could have or has a direct bearing on the outcome of the contest, a protest may be made by the team captain to the officials. Such protests must be made at the time the dispute arises and before play is resumed (if a play is begun after a potentially protestable situation, there will be no protest). To protest, the game shall be halted and the captain shall request a supervisor. The supervisor will give the captain a protest form, which must be completed and submitted no later than 5 PM the next day. The protest form and a $10 fee must be submitted to the Campus Recreation Office, CRCT 220. The $10 fee will be returned if the protest is upheld and the game will be replayed from the point of protest. A ruling by the Assistant Director of Intramurals that results in no change in the ruling will result in the loss of the protest fee. Misapplication of playing rules and participant eligibility are the only elements of the contest which may be protested. Officials' judgment may not be protested. In case of a disagreement between players in matches without officials, a re-match will be scheduled and an official will be assigned if needed.

Protests will be considered as follows:

  1. The Assistant Director of Intramurals will determine if the protest is legitimate.
  2. If the protest is legitimate and was submitted at the appropriate time, it will be ruled on by the Assistant Director of Intramurals.
  3. The captain from each team will be allowed to present his/her version of the disagreement. The officials involved will also be able to present their version of the disagreement. The Assistant Director's decision may be appealed (within two hours) to the Associate Director of Campus Recreation for Programs.
