The College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks an innovative and visionary leader to serve as Chair of the Department of Art and Art History, leading a faculty of 12 and around 225 undergraduate majors (BA, BFA) in studio arts (digital media, drawing, graphic design, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture), art history, and art education, as well as an MA in Art History offered jointly with the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa.

The successful candidate will be an accomplished scholar/artist with administrative experience and vision to lead a department that emphasizes quality undergraduate and graduate instruction, research, and community outreach. Appointment at the full professor level is expected. A terminal degree is required. The chair will lead an award-winning, research-driven faculty who are shaping the arts pivotally in the Southeast and nationally.

The Department of Art and Art History is primarily housed in the Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts, designed by renowned architect Randall Stout. The building contains gallery spaces, a graphic design studio, a new media lab, and art history classrooms as well as departmental offices.

Position available July 1, 2019. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
