Dr. Raut is a broadly trained biologist with an emphasis on Environmental Toxicology. She started at UAB in 2012 as one of the primary course masters for Introductory Biology. Prior coming to UAB, she was a tenure track faculty at Dalton State College. Besides Introductory Biology, she is involved in teaching non-majors microbiology and biology. Her teaching philosophy is focused on creating an all-inclusive classroom by introducing cutting- edge pedagogical techniques with an active emphasis on team-based learning, sustainability, and service-learning. Outside the classroom, she enjoys interacting with the undergraduates and also serves as a faculty advisor for Phi Sigma Biological Honors Society and recently got nominated to lead a new student organization, Disabilities Advocates Club.

Dr. Raut is also involved with CIRTL UAB in the training of future STEM faculty members and has successfully designed two new courses for this program. She serves as a shadowing mentor for graduate students and post-docs. Additionally, Dr. Raut also serves as a mentor for special topics in biology.

Dr. Raut’s current area of interest is in the assessment of various strategies and interventions utilized in the classroom as per the Vision and Change in Biology Undergraduate Education Report (AAAS, 2011).
