My research is focused on exploring the genetic diversity of Streptococcus mutans genotypes and their role in early childhood caries (ECC).

Stephanie Momeni. My doctoral work is focused on using multilocus sequence typing (MLST) together with repetitive extragenic palindromic PCR (rep-PCR) for effective large-scale genotyping for longitudinal epidemiological study. My future research goal is to expand my genotyping experience to include whole genome sequencing of S. mutans to investigate how these organisms change genetically during disease progression.

Mentors: Asim K. Bej (Biology) and Noel K. Childers (Pediatric Dentistry)
