  • MS, Samford University
  • PhD, University of Alabama at Birmingham

I have been at UAB almost all of my life. Having been born at University Hospital, I feel that I have never left. I received an outstanding education at UAB and am very proud to be an alumna. I am married to another UAB alumnus, Bruce S. Cusic D.M.D. My interests, outside of work, include gardening, photography, animal watching, traveling, and reading. All of my students know that I love cats. Currently I have three.

I was trained as a teratologist and reproductive biologist. My MS work was on the effects of pesticides on the development of freshwater pond snails. My PhD work was on drug/ gene interactions in the teratogenicity of retinoic acid in mice. I spent several years working at Southern Research Institute working in Preclinical Pharmacology and Toxicology. I have also worked in Chemical Carcinogenesis. I am no longer involved in research.
