NASA STEM Scholarships and Fellowships Available
UAB has been allocated 2 graduate slots, 6 undergraduate scholarships and 2 undergraduate pre-service teacher awards under this program. College of Arts and Sciences Associate Dean Yogesh Vohra, Ph.D. will serve as a UAB campus-director for this program.
Graduate STEM Research Fellowships
Awards are up to $37,000 ($24K in student stipend, up to $12K for tuition/insurance and $1K for student travel allowance) and are made initially for one 12-month period and may be renewed annually for a maximum total award of 36 months (3 years) support. Must be a U.S. citizen, enrolled full-time in good academic standing with a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale at an Alabama Space Grant member university pursing any space-related field of graduate study (Masters or Doctoral level).
Must conduct a specific faculty-mentored research project that has a NASA or aerospace relevance. Cannot receive funds from any source for work other than that defined by the student's approved proposed research and plan of study for which the award is made (supplements to the student's award may be made by the home university using funds from any source, provided the amount and source are disclosed in advance - see information booklet for more details).
Awardees must also complete an extramural NASA experience sometime during the fellowship year. The details are to be worked out with the faculty advisor and NASA lab facility where the student plans to participate in a research activity. It is advisable that a NASA contact be found prior to submission of the fellowship proposal. Fellows are also expected to be involved in ASGC outreach activities and submit a final report at the end of the award period.

Undergraduate STEM Scholarships
Awards are $1,000 and are made initially for one academic year and may be renewed for an additional academic year for a total award of 24 months (2 years) of support. Must be a U.S. citizen, undergraduate student (Jr./Sr. level), enrolled full-time in good academic standing with a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale at an Alabama Space Grant member university pursing any space-related field of study. Awardees are required to submit a final report to the Consortium Program Office at the end of their award period. The report should consist of information on the aerospace-related research being conducted on, or around, their campus of interest to the student. As an alternative to the researcher interviews, students may participate in an Outreach Activity under the guidance of the Campus Director and can submit a brief report outlining which Outreach Activity was participated in.

Teacher Education STEM Scholarships for Undergraduate Pre-Service Teachers in Science & Mathematics
Awards are $1,000, one year, non-renewable and give to students enrolled at an Alabama Space Grant member university in a track that leads to teacher certification in a precollege setting. Must be a U.S. citizen, enrolled as a full-time student in good academic standing with a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Students may apply during the senior year of their high school or sophomore year in a community college.

The deadline for the 2012/2013 applications is Thursday, March 1, 2012 and the deadline for the transcripts and letters of recommendation is Wednesday, March 7, 2012. For the application to be complete, both letters of of recommendation must be submitted by the aforementioned due date.
