The UAB Mock Trial team won the American Mock Trial Association’s (AMTA) Regional Invitational Tournament that was held in Jackson, MS February 24-26.

The team completed the tournament with an 8-0 record, sweeping every judge’s score sheet in all four rounds.  UAB defeated teams from Southern Methodist, Middle Tennessee State, the University of Georgia, and Mississippi Valley State University.  The win comes on the heels of a third place finish record at the recent “Ramblin Wreck” Invitational that was hosted by Georgia Tech.

In addition to winning the tournament, the team once again captured a tournament’s “Spirit of AMTA” Award given to the team that best exemplifies AMTA’s ideals of civility, justice, and fair play.  Several team members earned individual awards including Grady Lowman, Artem Joukov, and Ariel Smith for outstanding performances as attorneys or witnesses.  Other team members include Brian Price,

Kimberly Jeter, Valencia Jackson, Yamini Bhat, Thor Christianson, Dhvanil Zaveri, Walter Stewart, Chandni Patel, Priyanka Patel, Nina Hollenbeck, Morgan West, and Evan Sartin.

With the win, the team moves on to AMTA’s “Opening Round Championship Series” in Memphis, March 23-25.  That competition is national in scope and will help determine which teams move on to the prestigious AMTA National Championship Competition that will be held in St. Paul in mid-April.
