UAB to send Delegation to Upcoming Sociology Conference

Several University of Alabama at Birmingham professors and graduate students in the Department of Sociology will present papers at the American Sociological Associationannual conference Aug. 17-20, 2012.
Here is a list of the scheduled presentations:
- “The Effects of Caregiver Emotional Stress on the Depressive Symptomology of the Care Recipient” – Deborah Ejem, graduate teaching assistant.
- Graduate program poster session – Patricia Drentea, Ph.D., associate professor.
- “Activity and Well-Being: The Impact of Activity Interventions on the Well-Being of Older Adults in Continuing Care communities” – Vicki Winstead, graduate teaching assistant; Libby Yost, graduate assistant, and Shelia Cotten, Ph.D., professor.
- “Riches and Ritalin Romance: An Analysis of ADHD Medication Use and Socioeconomic Status” and a section on “Sociology of Mental Health/Organization, Finance, and Delivery of Mental Health Care: Where Are We and Where Are We Going?” – Zachary Simoni, graduate assistant.
- “Implicit Racial Bias in Health Care,” a session on Medical Sociology paper and “Health Disparities: A Persistent Sociological and Public Health Challenge” – Irena Stepanikova, Ph.D., assistant professor.
- Section on “Sociology of Education/Section on Sociology of Education” and Table 22 of “Social Capital in Education: Family and School-based Groups” – Kristi Stringer, graduate research assistant.
