Douglas P. Fry had been living in Finland for nearly 20 years when he decided it was time to move back to the United States. Then he heard about a position at UAB. Fry said UAB's Department of Anthropology interested him, as did the growth of the College of Arts and Sciences and its planned Institute for Human Rights, which was approved by the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees during its June 13 meeting.

High school students spend three weeks at the Ada Long Creative Writing Workshop

More than two dozen area high school students recently participated in The Ada Long Creative Writing Workshop, hosted by the Department of English. Students competed for the spots and were chosen by application in the spring; their recognition ceremony will be held on Friday, June 20 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Spencer Honors House.
