UAB Music Presents Summer Concert Events

The University of Alabama at BirminghamDepartment of Music has announced its summer 2014 calendar of concerts, including a “bon voyage” performance by the UAB Concert Choir, which is headed to Latvia in July.
The University of Alabama at Birmingham Jazz Ensemble won the top award, Most Outstanding College Band, on Saturday, April 19, at the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame’s 12th annual Student Jazz Band Festival competition.  

If the University of Alabama at Birmingham had a soundtrack, graduating senior Kevin Peek of Birmingham would write it.

Sophomore music student Aleksandra Kasman received top honors at two important competitions in March.
The University of Alabama at Birmingham Computer Music Ensemble, under the direction of Assistant Professor of Music Scott L. Phillips, Ph.D., will perform live in concert in “Odyssey at the Odess” on Friday, April 11, and Saturday, April 12.
April is a busy month for the University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Music’s UAB Percussion, with a festival for area high school percussion ensembles and three free concerts.

Gospel Choir to Present Spring Concert

The University of Alabama at Birmingham Gospel Choir will present its annual Spring Concert at 7 p.m. Monday, April 14, at UAB's Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center.
The Marcus Roberts Trio will kick off The Essentials: Ragtime and Early New Orleans Jazz, a new performance series created by the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center.
The University of Alabama at Birmingham Gospel Choir will travel to Las Vegas for a spring break tour March 26-30.
The University of Alabama at Birmingham choirs will perform in a concert fundraiser at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, at Southside Baptist Church, 11th Avenue South at 19th Street.
The University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Musicwill present “Around the World in 80 Minutes: A Musical Extravaganza,” featuring UAB bands, choirs, ensembles and soloists, at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 16.
The University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Music will present its third annual Brass Symposium on Friday, Feb. 14, and Saturday, Feb. 15. The Brass Symposium is a two-day event with clinics, rehearsals and performances by high school and college students.
The University of Alabama at Birmingham Concert Choir will release a new CD on Jan. 28, to help fund the choir’s trip to the eighth World Choir Games in Riga, Latvia, in July.
The Birmingham Art Music Alliance will present the University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Music’s Brass Quintet in a free concert of newly composed music by BAMA members at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, in the Samford University Brock Recital Hall, 800 Lakeshore Drive.
The University of Alabama at Birmingham College of Arts and Sciences will host its Distinguished Alumni Awards Reception on Thursday, Dec. 12.
