The UAB College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) announces a FY2013 competition for graduate student entrepreneurship awards. CAS plans to award six such graduate student projects of up to $10,000 each. The goal is to promote student innovation and entrepreneurship across graduate programs in CAS.

Steven Austad, Ph.D., has been named chair of the University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Biology. Austad comes to UAB from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
Renato Corbetta, associate professor of government in the University of Alabama at Birmingham College of Arts and Sciences, has been named the new director of the International Studies program.

Novelist James Braziel Joins the UAB Faculty

James Braziel, MFA, author of Birmingham, 35 Miles (Bantam 2008) and Snakeskin Road (Bantam 2009) has joined the UAB's Department of English as an assistant professor of creative writing. A native of Pitts, Ga., Braziel has published fiction and poetry in Berkeley Fiction Review, Chattahoochee Review, Hayden's Ferry Review, and Clackamas Literary Review, among other journals.
