A native of St. Louis, Missouri; Cheryl teaches hundreds of students every semester in Theatre UAB's Introduction to Theatre and Plays on Film courses. She has served on the Board of Directors for City Equity Theatre; Aldridge Repertory Theatre.

Winner: Lois S. Gerren Award for Excellence in Scenic Design for The African Company Presents Richard III; In 2008 her dark comedy, Blood Thinner, was chosen out of hundreds of submissions around the country to compete in Series G of New York City’s Strawberry One-Act Festival. eta Creative Arts’ 2012 production of Cheryl’s full length play; The Dowager Daughters of Transcendence was nominated by Chicago's Black Theatre Alliance for Best Drama or Comedy and Best Dramatic Script.
