J. Marc Quattlebaum is a regionally recognized prop designer and theatre artisan/artist. Marc works with students to design, create, and facilitate functional furniture, prop, and “magic” items that enhance the world of the play and deepen an audience’s engagement with the characters and story. His primary duties include: creating and facilitating props and furniture for department shows, mentoring design/tech students, and running the prop shop. Small scale design is his passion.

Prior to coming to UAB, Marc taught Scenic Design, Page to Stage (an Intro to Theatre Course), Prop and Puppetry Design, Stage Craft, and Stage Management as the Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre for Millsaps College in Jackson, MS. Before that he worked in various capacities for theatres in Michigan, Virginia, Maryland, and South Carolina.

In addition to props, Marc works as a freelance design consultant, visual artist, and playwright. Three of his short plays have been produced: Humpback (2014) and The Vase (2017) for the UAB Festival of 10 Minute Plays, and Nightmare (2015) at the University of West Alabama (2015). His newest work, a full length drama, is titled In the Gardens of Men.
