| Location and Setting of the Cancer Center The Cancer Center is the cancer program of the UAB Medical Center . Its major components are located at this single site. The hub of the Center is the Lurleen Wallace Radiation Therapy and Tumor Institute with 28,000 ft 2 of radiation oncology; 10,000 ft 2 of administration; and 67,000 ft 2 of research space. The North Pavilion of University Hospital provides 22,000 ft 2 of space contiguous with the second floor of the Wallace Tumor Institute for Cancer Center utilization. The Building for Special Cancer Research was the Center's P-3 facility and now serves as a major locus for vector and vaccine design and production; major research programmatic space is located in the McCallum Basic Health Sciences Building , Tinsley Harrison Tower , Bevill Biomedical Research Building , and Volker Hall. The inpatient facilities of the Medical Center include University Hospital , Birmingham Veterans Administration Hospital , Children's Hospital, and Spain Rehabilitation Hospital with an affiliation with the Jefferson County , Cooper Green Hospital . All ambulatory activities of the Center are in The Kirklin Clinic, a $105 million, I.M. Pei-designed ambulatory facility.
