Next Generation Sequence AnalysisCCTS informatics will assist investigators with the analysis of all NGS datasets. This includes whole genome and exome sequencing; RNA-Seq transcriptomics; ChiP-Seq and methyl-Seq studies; and Microbiome and Metagenomic sequencing.
Microarray AnalysisWe can assist with the analysis of microarray gene expression data, and/or put you in touch with one of our partners at the Heflin Center for Genomic Science or the Section on Statistical Genetics to help you with your analytical needs.
Enterprise Data Warehousing (EDW) InitiativeCCTS Informatics works with Health System Information Services (HSIS) to support the UAB EDW Initiative that provides biomedical investigators with access to clinical data from the Electronic Health Record that is generated andmaintained within the UAB Health System. Current data is uploaded daily and historical data is uploaded on a continual basis. CCTS Informatics also interfaces with the Natural Language Processing (NLP) Laboratory of the UAB Department of Computer and Information Sciences and the Health Systems NLP staff. These collaborations are focused on the development of tools and techniques to process the millions of clinical text notes that comprise a significant part of historical health records – making these records available for secondary research and clinical operations. Informatics has also developed a customized cohort query tool: the Aggregate Cohort Estimator (ACE), described below. ACE has been used as the starting point for a collaborative initiative with other CTSAs, to develop a federated, multi-institutional, platform neutral cohort query tool. Aggregate Cohort Estimator (ACE)ACE is a self-service application that provides investigators with estimated patient counts based on demographic, encounter, diagnosis, procedure, or lab result constraints. It empowers investigators to determine the likelihood of a sufficient cohort of patients at UAB for a research proposal. The tool is specifically intended to assist investigators with the proposed enrollment section of research proposals, or other estimation of available research candidates. As counts are approximate and no PHI is disclosed, no IRB approval is needed and only BlazerID authentication is required for access. Click here for log in.
Data Storage/SafetyCCTS Informatics will work with you to determine your data storage needs. This might include development of databases that will properly store and organize your data. We will help you determine the best software and data management system to use, as well as the best way to manage those systems.
For data safety, UAB and the UAB Health System maintain a unified and comprehensive privacy and information security program that preserves and protects the confidentiality, availability and integrity of all information assets including patients, research, customer, and business data. In addition, UAB is committed to providing an IT environment focused on ensuring compliance to all applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines. This plan addresses the security requirements of data processed and stored within the information systems at UAB, but we are also working with our Network Partners to ensure that they have appropriate data security plans for the protection of human subject research data.
