To augment current resources and services available to CCTS investigators, the H2M Systems Core will establish and provide a variety of educational and consulting forums designed to facilitate the reciprocal exchange of scientific information between the investigator and core personnel. Through the H2M Core, investigators will learn about a wide variety of options available to create and study model organisms, and receive input from experts currently using different genetic models. The Core will also serve as an advocate for investigators as core personnel become educated on the experimental needs of the investigator.
Specific services available to investigators will include: 1) consultation and experimental design, 2) training and access to experts using different model organisms, 3) bioinformatics and database searches [identification of existing genetic animal models and resources to create new models; e.g., BAC or ES cell clones, zinc finger nuclease technologies (ZFNs) and Transcription Activator-Like Effector Nucleases (TALEN) design], 4) DNA construct design and preparation (BAC recombineering, in silico DNA synthesis), and 5) production of genetic organisms (mice and other mammalian models, zebrafish, Drosophila, and C. elegans).
