Deep South Network for Translational Research (DSNTR)

Drawn from other NIH-funded programs [Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE), IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE), and Research Centers in Minority Institutions (RCMI)], Network partners worked together on a CTSA Community Engagement Activities Supplement that was submitted in 2010.  The overarching goal of this initiative was to establish a sustainable research infrastructure in the Deep South.

The supplement, The Deep South Network for Translational Research (DSNTR): Cultivating Multi-institutional Community-based Research Collaborations for Early-Stage-Investigators, was funded in 2011 to support junior investigators from multiple institutions collaborating on pilot studies.  Two pilot projects have been funded with another RFA anticipated for release in the near future.

Mona Fouad and Stuart Frank.   This Network hopes to promDSNTR first mtg.jpgote the development of team science within and across institutions, a key tenet of the CTSA National Consortium.

Drs. Fouad and Frank welcomed Dr. Alving and six faculty members from five southeastern academic institutions.  Guests included Dr. John Higginbotham from the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa, Dr. Paul Tchounwou from Jackson State University, Drs. John Estrada and Augusto Ochoa from Louisiana State University, Dr. Luis Gabriel Navar from Tulane University, and Dr. Glen Shearer from the University of Southern Mississippi.  Other institutional partners not represented at the face-to-face meeting include Tuskegee University, the University of South Alabama, and Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Louisiana.
