Project Panels

The CCTS offers a variety of Project Panels to help investigators strengthen their science.  Contact the Research Commons (ccts@uab.edu) or 934-7442 to activate a Panel or learn more.

The Nascent Project Panel (NPP) provides assistance in a variety of areas relevant to clinical and translational research (study design, biostatistics, ethics, health disparities, outcomes, regulatory, grant writing, etc.).  Panel meetings are typically held the fourth Wednesday of the month from 4:00pm-5:30pm.  Investigators have the opportunity to discuss their research plan with brief background information, the specific aims and hypothesis, and some preliminary data, if applicable.  Immediate feedback is given through the Panel discussion and a written summary of the discussion points are provided.

Panels Done Quickly (PDQs) are a targeted, rapidly deployable version of the NPP.  As with the NPP, there is an emphasis on multiple viewpoints and content-specific expertise, but from a smaller group of experts (usually 3-5).  For those who seek additional opportunities to assess progress and identify opportunities for improvement, follow-up PDQs may be convened.

The Translational Investigator Exchange Service (TIES) serves as a “matchmaker” to bring together complementary teams of basic and/or clinical investigators.  For example, a clinical investigator with a need for basic science expertise can be matched with a basic scientist – or a basic researcher with a finding that may be translatable to clinical application can be matched with a clinical investigator/clinician.
