Pilot Funding Targets Outcomes and Disparities Research

Pilot Funding Targets Outcomes and Disparities Research

Through support from the AMC21 Research Strategic Plan, the Center for Outcomes and Effectiveness Research and Education (COERE) and the Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Center (MHRC) are soliciting proposals for pilot funding in outcomes and disparities research. This opportunity is targeted at investigators who will be competitive for an R01, R18, PCORI, program project proposals, or equivalent independent funding in 2015.  The PI of the pilot grant must be a UAB faculty member.

The overall goal of these grants should contribute to either outcomes research or disparities research or both.  Please see the attached document for descriptions of disparities and outcomes research.  Requested funds should be targeted at making the future grant proposals highly competitive.

A total of $100,000 is available under this funding opportunity to fund two pilot grants of $50,000 each. Funds will be available starting in June 2014. Because the goal is to build capacity, collaborative projects that team investigators who have not previously conducted outcomes and/or disparities research with experienced scientists in these areas are strongly encouraged.

Proposals will be reviewed by MHRC and COERE leaders.

Please prepare a proposal that includes the following:

·         Completed Cover Sheet (please see attached)

·         PI’s 4-page NIH Biosketch including the total number of publications.

·         Detailed budget (please use PHS 398 Form Page 4)

·         Budget justification on how pilot funds in the amount of $50,000 will be used.

·         Specific aims of proposed R01 or R18 or equivalent (no more than 1 page with at least one-half inch margins).

·         Explanation of how pilot funds will expand work towards the specific aims and will support the development of a more competitive proposal for submission (no more than 2 pages with at least one-half inch margins).

Completed application packet must be submitted by email as a single pdf document to Pam Mayes with a copy to Ryan Outman.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: 5:00pm Central Time, May 1, 2014.

Please contact Ryan Outman with any questions.
