In his role at UAB, Josh works on strategic projects focused on community engagement and economic development. Examples include spearheading a city-wide partnership to secure $6 million to train disconnected youth for high-demand IT jobs and cofounding Bama Covered, a non-profit public health education initiative to engage college students in conversations with the communities surrounding their campuses. He has served as a White House intern and was an award-winning Teach for America AL corps member. Josh also teaches at the Collat School of Business and researches how job attainment alters notions of efficacy.

Chris has worked as an occupational therapist since 1999 in settings including an outpatient hand therapy clinic, an orthopedic acute care hospital, an outpatient surgery clinic, and a university-based clinic primarily serving children with developmental disabilities. He has also served as an ergonomics consultant, a job coach and life skills train for adults with multi-sensory impairments, and an expert witness in cases involving therapy in school systems. He is the Government Affairs Chair for the Alabama Occupational Therapy Association and a board member of the Alabama State Licensing Board of Occupational Therapy.

Suzanne’s research focuses on the role of vitamin D as a mediator of racial disparities in the risk of hypertension, kidney disease, and stroke. She also serves as lead for the data management and analytic team of the REGARDS project. Suzanne led two vitamin D supplementation trials during her time at Emory University and gained industrial clinical trial experience at Kimberly-Clark Corporation.

Doug is a mentor, teacher, and research scientist investigating mitochondrial dysfunction and disease risk, including insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis, cancer, and obesity. He is also interested in the interactions of psychosocial “life” stress and dietary choices on markers of oxidative stress, inflammation and their association with weight gain. Doug contributes to numerous UAB research centers and committees and is chair of the 2017 CEI.

In addition to her UAB roles, Shilpa serves on the Board of Directors for the UAB National Alumni Society and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Alabama. Her doctorates are in Educational Policy and Leadership and Optometry and she is a fellow of National Academies of Practice and the American Academy of Optometry.
